Missing Wives, Missing Lives by JJ Slate (A compilation of true cases of missing women)

Missing Wives, Missing Lives
Coming this summer, 2014 in eBook, Paperback and Audiobook editions.

JJ's debut true crime novel, Missing Wives, Missing Lives, will highlight true stories in which a wife has mysteriously vanished and is presumed dead, and the undying efforts of her family and loved ones as they search to bring her home.

It is estimated that approximately 2,300 Americans are reported missing every day — an average of 840,000 people a year. These totals are six times the amount of the national averages reported just twenty years ago. Crime experts estimate that fewer than five percent of those reported missing are actual abductions or kidnappings by a stranger.

JJ Slate has been fascinated by missing persons reports and cold cases for as long as she can remember. With the sheer volume of people reported missing each day, it’s impossible to follow each case in the media, but there are always incidents that seem to pluck at her heartstrings. When a wife mysteriously vanishes in the midst of filing for divorce or undergoing custody proceedings, it is only natural for investigators to look at the husband first. There have been countless cases like this in the media, and many of them have been solved after the wife’s remains have eventually been found. In some instances, the husband has even been prosecuted for his wife’s murder, even though a body has never been found. But even in these cases, true closure may not be possible until the families are able to physically bury their loved one. Some of these families continue the gruesome search for the remains of their daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, or mother even years later.
